Jelly Filled Quilt Parade

I’m so excited to be participating in Vanessa’s Book Tour! I loved her first book about how to use your charm squares, and when I heard she had one coming about how to use up jelly roll precuts, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it!

This book is stuffed with so many amazing patterns. I want to make them all! In this post, I’ll share my first make from the book—this fun Hey Cupcake quilt.

I picked this one for a couple of reasons: First, I wanted to practice my curved piecing and, second, I had this fun Kahari Jelly roll by Carolyn Friedlander hanging out in my stash that I thought would be a fun collection for this quilt. Especially when paired with Robert Kaufman Essex linen.

Fun fact: I made this quilt while retreating at Stitch Supply co, and loved using their great design wall to lay it out.

The pattern comes with some templates for you to trace and cut out the shapes needed for the curved blocks. I chatted with Vanessa about the way we could implement the Creative Grids Circle Savvy ruler for the project, and I’ll be sharing some tips for you below.

For the Background Arc, you will cut your squares out on the 7.5” curve. And for the Accent Wedge you will cut on the 8.5” curve.

Using this ruler is so slick! I’m excited whenever I can find a shortcut trace templates.

I created a quick YouTube video with a few tips on sewing quarter circles to make the process a little easier. You can also see the Circle Savvy ruler in action. Check it out below:

I quilted this quilt using a pantograph I hadn’t used called Quagmire. I love how it turned out. It provides such great texture and detail to all the background space.

Hope you’ve been following along this week to see all the amazing makes! Check out the #jellyfilledbook hashtag on Instagram for all the fun.

And another big thanks for Vanessa for creating so many amazing patterns!
