Sew Pink 2022

As always, I feel so privileged to participate in the ByAnnie #SewPINK event each year, to promote Breast Cancer awareness and fundraising! This year the ByAnnie team has made a goal to raise $20,000. If you would like to help us reach this goal, you can donate directly to the campaign here, where they are matching all the donations given.

I look forward to the opportunity each October to slow down and play with some pink fabrics for this event. This year I decided to make my Violet Backpack pattern. It’s the first anniversary of its release this month.

When I was trying to decide on a fabric, I couldn’t pick just one, so I decided that a patchwork version of the backpack could be fun. I was having a hard time landing on a design so that is when the improv piecing idea was born. I have never done improv piecing before. Since it was my first time doing something so scrappy, I decided to keep it simple by cutting up strips of fabric. I did the flip and stitch quilt-as-you-go method for the front and back panels of the backpack. I had fun picking out all the fabric and adding quilting details to each bag piece.

I recently designed a duffle bag pattern that makes use of slightly different zipper installations, so I decided to try it out on this bag as well. I bound the edges before attaching the zipper. I loved that it added another fabric and print to the crazy mix.

Here are some pictures of Violet with the backpack on. She loved wearing it around. Forgive the blurry pictures—photographing a toddler is tricky! haha.

Big thanks to the By Annie team! I feel so grateful for the event and the reminder to take care of our health and wellness during this month. Let’s take it a step further and make it a goal to always do that. Now that I’m raising my own little lady, I feel so grateful for the reminders and opportunities to teach wellness and to share examples of love for our bodies and health. Be sure to check out the blog hop schedule below. There are so many other talented makers participating.

Beautiful backpack. I like your fabrics. Putting on the binding before zippers sounds like a great idea. Your daughter is precious wearing it. Thank you for the blog post today.
