Patchwork Duffle Sew-along Week 2

This week is all things quilting and cutting.  I'll be sharing some quilting and cutting tips with you this week. Quilting the bag panels can take a bit of time so just be patient and enjoy the meditative hum of your sewing machine.  QUILTING ON YOUR DOMESTIC MACHINE There are different tools and ways to mark and quilt your panels. If you have a favorite method (pin basting, spray basting etc.) use it! Here is a YouTube video I made sharing about how I like to quilt Soft and Stable. The same rules would apply if you are using batting for your bag as well. Also stay tuned on IG as I quilt my panels during the week in real time. Quilting smaller pieces can make the process a little easier than quilting...

Patchwork Duffle

Introducing the Patchwork Duffle bag pattern! This has been such an incredibly fun project to work on and create. I love when a patten just comes together and when I just can't wait to make 30 of them. I have currently made 5 versions so far and can't wait to share them all. The pattern is written to use 3.5'' scraps of fabric to achieve the most darling patchwork bag. Or if you want a quicker make, just use one exterior fabric. The bag has two exterior pockets and only uses 1 zipper. I wanted to create a project that would be easy for a beginner bag maker, without a lot of expense into hardware. I created two Youtube Videos...

Sew Pink 2021

Welcome to SEW PINK 2021! For those that are new to the #SewPink Initiative, it was created by ByAnnie.com LLC to raise awareness for breast cancer throughout the year. Their efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month to promote self-care, awareness, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer. I have been able to participate the last 2 years as well and I love the chance to ponder, raise awareness and be reminded of the seriousness that Breast Cancer is, and the simple efforts we can make to fight this! Its a great reason I've found each October to sew with some pink fabrics and make a donation to a worthy cause. I am excited to share my PINK project this year. I decided to stick with another theme of...

The Violet Backpack

Hello folks. I would like to introduce you to my newest pattern: The Violet Backpack. If you’re a regular around here, you know I like to name my patterns after my nieces’ names. Olivia, Truvy, and Wylie are all namesakes for previous patterns of mine. I knew I would eventually make a pattern named after my own little girl. What I didn’t expect was to do it in the first year of her life! But here we are. I have wanted to design a small backpack for a long time. I wanted one of my own really badly after visiting Disneyland in 2020 (thinking this would be the perfect size for a Disney trip)! The Violet Backpack features one outside zippered pocket—perfect for your phone and keys. Inside, there are three slip pockets. Included in the pattern are instructions...

Purr-fect Patchwork

Hi friends, I'm very pleased to share about a dear friend's new book! Pam and I met in real life during an even hosted in Provo, UT called Creative Collaborative. Sarah Jane was speaking so we both went to fan girl over an incredible artist and fabric designer. We realized there that we were both quilters and became friends! It's been fun to support each other over the years in our individual endeavors. To see Pam's book finally come to life is such a joy! Specifically, I'd like to share about one of the projects in the book which I was able to long-arm quilt for Pam. The pattern is called Ziggy Kitty. It features a darling cat block with two variations of pieced cats. It's perfect for showcasing a large-scale print mixed with some small-scale prints....

Favorite Things Fabric Tour

Who doesn't love sewing with a good rainbow fabric collection? Luckily for me (and you), Shayla from Sassafras lane is a master at creating said colorful collections. I first sewed with one of Shayla's collections a few years ago when I was able to participate in a blog tour for her Foundations fabric collection. Check out the rainbow Hello Pouches I made here, and then again with her Good Vibes Only fabric collection where I made my Modern Half Hexi quilt. When she asked me to participate again this year, I knew I wouldn't be able to resist Shaylas rainbow goodness. Somehow I was able to manage, in the midst of having a baby and learning all about sleep deprivation. This project was a bright spot in my weeks as I strapped my baby on or watched as she slept beside me and my whirring sewing machine....

SEW PINK 2020

It's such a pleasure to have some good news and positivity to share amidst all of the twists and turns 2020 has thrown our way. My good friend Annie Unrein and her crew are raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer research. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to participate! I feel strongly that it's important to be informed about Breast Cancer. As someone who has family members that have been affected, I care deeply about spreading awareness. I'm so grateful for the ByAnnie Team for sharing this cause so passionately each year. You can read my #SewPink post from last year here. Here's a little more information about the journey of breast cancer research thus far: In honor of this occasion, I decided to make a project featuring lots of pink! I chose my most...

The Truvy Bag

This bag pattern has been in the making for over a year. I made my first sample out of an old Amy Butler print that is an all-time favorite of mine. I thought to myself, "If this doesn’t work out, and I only manage to make it once, I want to use fabric I will love for a long time." To my surprise and joy, it worked out really well and just took me a little while to get the pattern finalized. I’ve now made 4 of these bags and have 3 others in the works. It's addicting! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. This bag has 4 separate vinyl zipper compartments. The pockets in the body of the bag have significant depth to them, so they will hold a lot of things. The two removable...

Wylie’s Way Quilt

As a long-time diamond quilt lover, I wanted to design one of my own. While designing my Second Star quilt pattern, I learned all about the math and methods for making half-rectangle triangles. Ultimately that led me to this fun design. My favorite tool for creating half-rectangle triangles is the HRT Bloc Loc ruler. It is super handy when trimming them down. I also have a YouTube video that shows some helpful tips and tricks for quickly making half-rectangle triangles. This quilt is made from fat quarters—and I’m sure we all of a few extra of those lying around! Grab your pattern here, pick up a ruler while you're at it, and get started! I'm gonna buy me Wylie's Way brb I named this Pattern after my darling...
