New York Lattice Quilt

I'm so excited this day is finally here! The idea for this pattern was born over two year ago. I first came across the design idea while visiting New York on New Years Eve in 2017. It was one of the coldest New Years' in 100 years (much to my dismay as a sunshine-loving girl). One of my favorite things to do while traveling is take pictures of shapes that could serve as quilt design ideas. I think I just always seem to have quilts on my brain. We walked through Central Park and spotted some brick that inspired this design! Now you know why it's called New York Lattice. What a time to release this pattern! There is so much going on in the world, and there is especially serious turmoil happening...

Jelly Filled Quilt Parade

I’m so excited to be participating in Vanessa’s Book Tour! I loved her first book about how to use your charm squares, and when I heard she had one coming about how to use up jelly roll precuts, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! This book is stuffed with so many amazing patterns. I want to make them all! In this post, I'll share my first make from the book—this fun Hey Cupcake quilt. I picked this one for a couple of reasons: First, I wanted to practice my curved piecing and, second, I had this fun Kahari Jelly roll by Carolyn Friedlander hanging out in my stash that I thought would be a fun collection for this quilt. Especially when paired with Robert Kaufman Essex linen.

#SewPink

I’m so grateful for this opportunity to be part of the ByAnnie #SewPink initiative this month! Raising Breast Cancer awareness is such an important cause, and I'm honored to be part of this initiative. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. I have a few dear family members that fighting breast cancer battle and I’m grateful everyday for the research and technological advancement that have allowed them and so many others to be here with us still. I know that there are many casualties in the battle against casualties and I feel deeply for anyone who has lost a loved one. I am grateful for the example of so many around me who have taken their health into their own hands and because an advocate for oneself. It's important for each of...

Modern Half Hexi Quilt

I am so excited this day is finally here! I have been working on this quilt pattern for quite some time. I spent much of it testing out different color combinations, but then received the opportunity to work with Ruby Star Society as part of their spring market collections. When I saw the collections, I just knew any and all of them could be a perfect fit with my pattern! Check out these three size variations of my #modernhalfhexiquilt. Below is my favorite rendition—a baby-size using the Snap to Grid fabric by Kimberly Kight along with an Add It Up print by Alexia Abegg. I love the playfulness of this color-blocked look. Here is a lap version of the Aviary collection....

Good Vibes Only Blog Tour

I always feel so privileged and excited when I get to participate in a blog tour for the launch of a new product. I know that it takes an artist who is willing to put his/her heart and soul into creating it and bringing it to fruition. This fabulous fabric tour falls into that category; it's something inspiring, happy, fun, and it's a joy to use in creating! This collection was designed by Shayla Wolf of Sassafrass Lane for Windham fabrics and is shipping to stores August 2019. The collection includes some incredible geometric rainbow prints that allow endless possibilities for creations. When Shayla invited me to participate, I was right in the middle or designing a new quilt pattern and thought this collection would be a fun way to highlight both the...

Olivia Basket Sew-along: Week 2

I am so excited for all of you who have joined in to sew Olivia's Baskets with me. Now that we have everything cut out, we are going to do some quilting! These baskets feature an unquieted exterior and a quilted lining (no loose lining here). That means we will only quilt the lining fabric to the Soft and Stable. I made a YouTube tutorial with tips for quilting Soft and Stable, so give it a watch if you're feeling hesitant or unsure. In the video, I share easy tips for creating 1'' crosshatch quilting on some Hello Pouches I was making, but the tips are still the same for any quilting project. Check out that video here. Soft and Stable Quilting Tutorial Be sure to follow the information shown in the pattern to trim...

Thank you to those of you who have subscribed to join in on my Olivia's Baskets Sew-along.  I am so excited to have you along! If you haven't already subscribed to the Sew-Along newsletter, you can do that here. I'll be giving away fabric and some of my favorite notions, so you won't want to miss it. I've split up the sew-along into three bite-sized parts so you can do a little bit at a time and more easily fit it into your busy schedule. Here is the timetable: Week 1:  Announce your participation in the sew-along using the #oliviabasketsewalong hashtag and a photo of your fabric pull. Cut out your fabric pieces. Here's the fabric pull for my own baskets. Week 2: Quilt your Soft and Stable and...

Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour

I am so excited to be participating in the Prairie Sisters Farmhouse Fabric Tour. I love the connections I've made in the quilting community, and I was so pleased when I crossed paths with the talented Jina Barney. She asked if I would be willing to make some of my Olivias Baskets and Hello Pouches as samples out of her new fabric collection—Prairie Sisters by Poppie Cotton, which is a new fabric company started by her and Lori Wood Studios. I happily agreed, and got to sewing with these darling prints. I made my Olivia's Baskets in all three sizes included in the pattern. Olivias Baskets is a great beginner pattern and a perfect match with these springtime prints. These Baskets are also reversible! Side note: I am also hosting a Olivia's Baskets Sew along...

Amy Butler Design, Blossom Magazine, Mothers Without Borders

Thank you Amy!

I am a day late for the "Thank you, Amy" day put together by the Craft Industry Alliance, but I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by to say, "Thank you, Amy," myself! I started working at a quilt shop—Quilted Works—when I was a 17 year-old senior in high school. This was the great beginning to my dream job. It was there that I started long-arm quilting and developed my serious quilting addiction, and my obsession with Amy Butler's modern, bright, and amazing fabrics. My boss at the quilt shop flew me and my quilting buddy Kelsey (@spoolsandspice) to Portland Quilt Market in 2007, where I first has the opportunity to meet Amy.   We were seriously fan-girling over her and had to bring our finished Amy Butler bags to share. Later, I started working for Annie and had the opportunity to travel to many more quilt markets. I continued to be inspired by Amy's Fabric collections. ...

Second Star Quilt Pattern

I am SO excited to finally be sharing my Second Star Quilt Pattern with you! I have been working on this pattern for quite some time. This is my very first quilt pattern, and I designed it using Sarah Jane's new fabric collection Peter Pan for Michael Miller Fabrics. The title came from Peter Pan, and, more specifically, the phrase "second star to the right and straight on till morning." I wanted to incorporate two stars in the quilt, and I think the "twinkling star" produces a fun burst effect.  I hope you love it as much as I do. The block finished at 12''. The pattern includes the Flying Geese 4 x 4 method of construction and a quick way of making Half Rectangle Triangles. I am grateful for all the makers that tested my pattern for me. I wanted to share all of their creative variations and versions.  It's amazing...
