Knot and Thread Design, Long Arm Quilting, Pattern, Soft and Stable, The Violet Backpack

The Violet Backpack

Hello folks. I would like to introduce you to my newest pattern: The Violet Backpack. If you’re a regular around here, you know I like to name my patterns after my nieces’ names. Olivia, Truvy, and Wylie are all namesakes for previous patterns of mine. I knew I would eventually make a pattern named after my own little girl. What I didn’t expect was to do it in the first year of her life! But here we are. I have wanted to design a small backpack for a long time. I wanted one of my own really badly after visiting Disneyland in 2020 (thinking this would be the perfect size for a Disney trip)!

The Violet Backpack features one outside zippered pocket—perfect for your phone and keys. Inside, there are three slip pockets. Included in the pattern are instructions for both toddler-sized and adult-sized adjustable straps.

I used some prints from Kimberly Kight’s new collection called Strawberry & Friends from Ruby Star Society. I LOVE it in canvas. It’s the perfect weight for a bag. I used cotton weight fabrics for both the lining, pockets, bindings, and handles.

I quilted this fabric on my long-arm with Soft and Stable. If you haven’t tried ByAnnie’s Soft and Stable for a bag yet, what are you waiting for?! It’s really the best stuff ever for bags; it provides such great shape and remains pliable when sewing. I quilted the fabrics using Karlee Porter’s pantograph design called Interlocking Orange Peel. I would love to quilt some Soft and Stable up for you for your bag projects! If you are interested you can fill out a quilting submission form here.

I was also so excited to have an excuse to use my peach-striped zippers by the yard from Sew Quirky and rose gold hardware. They turned out SO CUTE!! You can grab your very own here as well. I will be carrying supplies to finish your own very own backpack in my shop! I have 5 colors of hardware to choose from.

I have started working on a couple Youtube videos to be companions with this pattern that will be available very soon. Stay tuned for those.

Extra special shout out to my dear from Kristen Perreault of @kperreaultcreates for styling and taking these amazing photos. She is super talented and has a darling shop you will most definitely want to check out.

XOXO,

Kait

P.S. Tell me how you would use this backpack in the comments below and I’ll pick one of you to win a PDF pattern at the end of the week!

Congrats on your newest pattern. I’ve just added it to my Christmas gift make list. I also would love to make a couple for myself…one for a travel bag for my EPP sewing and one as a purse for antique shopping, no more heavy purse. I just made 5 Olivia baskets and I love how well written your patterns are. The videos are a great help, too. Thanks for such a cute and useful pattern.
